STRANGERS AND PILGRIMS
THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF TABERNACLE BPC

Today, we celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Tabernacle Bible Presbyterian Church. The Lord is good. Great is His faithfulness! (Lam. 3:22-23)

Tabernacle BPC was inaugurated on 28 June 1987. It was given the name “Tabernacle” for two reasons:

First, the name begins with “T”, which points back to its roots in the Tanglin Bible Class. This class later shifted to
Life Bible-Presbyterian Church when Rev. Timothy Tow graciously gave a room for the group to meet. It was renamed Life Bible Class from which Tabernacle BPC was formed.

Second, the name “Tabernacle” reminds the worshippers that they are but strangers and pilgrims in this world, with no permanent home. Indeed, this was the confession of the saints of old. “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and con-fessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.” (Heb. 11:13)

Considering this, let us on the 30th Anniversary be reminded to set our affections on things above, not on things on the earth (Col. 3:1). The Lord Jesus Christ is coming soon. There is no time to be entangled with the things of this world. We must labour for Christ with the life that He gives us. God’s Word must be magnified, and His name glorified!

We are also most happy to have several ministers of the Word and friends joining us on this day of rejoicing. We have been blessed by the help and support rendered to Tabernacle BPC. May the Lord also be pleased to bless you and your families in your testimonies for Christ.

Special mention belongs to the Far Eastern Bible College, whom the Lord has used to bless many Bible-believing churches in Singapore and throughout the world. Tabernacle BPC has benefited much from the faithful teaching of God’s Word through the College. May the Lord continue to help FEBC to earnestly contend for the faith, and to train workers for the harvest fields.

May the Lord find it pleasing to sustain Tabernacle BPC as the pillar and ground of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15) till the Lord Jesus Christ returns.

Lovingly in Christ,
Preacher Clement Chew
