Shomerim Young Adult Fellowship

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25

Shomerim Fellowship started in year 2004 and we thank the Lord for seeing us through all these years.

Shomerim comes from the root word “Shamar” which means “He guarded”. Why is it “He guarded”? Because Shamar is in the 3rd Masculine Singular absolute verb. It is regarded as the root word also. The variance appears when the root word changes to a participle verb. In this case, the word “shamar” changes to “shomer” (participle). It is in absolute form.

After knowing the word “shomer”, which is participle, you might ask what does the ending “im” means? The ending “im” is the suffix that designate a masuline plural absolute. Thus, Shomerim literally means “They (masculine) who guarded”.

Lastly, the word “Shomerim” has a theological meaning. In the theological usage, the word “shomer” denotes one who guards the gate of a city or nation. In using the “im” suffix, it literally means a group of men (since it’s masculine) who guarded the gate of the city or nation(in the Christian context).

So Shomerim refers to the chosen people to watch and guard the gate of everyone’s soul in Shomerim.
